Our Step by Step Walk Through of a the LAP-BAND® Procedure
Dr. Buschman has developed a program to help our patients be successful on their
weight-loss journey. Here is an overview of the steps you will need to take to prepare
for LAP-BAND® System surgery and achieve optimal long-term results:
Step 1 - Attend a Free Seminar or Schedule an Office Visit
We encourage attendance at a seminar for initial information about the LAP-BAND® system.
If you are unable to attend a seminar, then an office visit can be scheduled. Dr. Buschman
must see you in an office consultation to determine whether you are a candidate. This would
be payable by your insurance if this is a covered benefit. If this is not a covered benefit then it
is the patients' responsibility to cover the cost.
Step 2 - Meet with Chris
Licensed Professional Counselor Chris Menegay interviews each patient prior to the
procedure to help determine success using the LAP-BAND® as a means of weight loss.
Step 3 - Meet with Tammy
You will meet with and speak with Tammy Brown, our consulting dietician, to discuss
your lifestyle and diet in the conference room at SWAT Surgical Associates LLP.
This step will require multiple visits.
Step 4 - Medical Evaluation
Dr. Buschman will meet with you prior to surgery to update your history and physical, obtain
consent and answer any final questions that you may have.
Step 5 - Payment
Regarding payment, we are more than happy to assist with pre-determination if necessary from your insurance company. However, many insurance policies do not consider this a covered benefit. It would help if you contacted your insurance company to see if this is a covered benefit in your policy. We can write letters and appeal on your behalf but if the policy excludes this procedure, you may be self pay. If your insurance does not cover this procedure and deems you self pay, we will work with you to best meet your financial needs. We offer financing options thru Care Credit, but additional fees may apply. We will also go over a detailed price sheet with you.
Step 6 - Surgery

Step 7 - Post-Op Follow-Up & Lifestyle
After surgery Dr. Buschman will see you post operatively within 7 to 10 days and you will begin your track to a successful LAB-BAND user experience.
